Seven Compelling Reasons to Choose Holistic Medicine Over Conventional Western Medicine

Drugs can cause numerous side effects, long-term physical damage, and even death-without effectively treating the condition for which it was developed. Surgery often removes vital organs, which can never replaced and whose absence can bring on more trouble than the organ itself was causing.

The rate of deaths among hospital patients soar compared to people with similar conditions and similar levels of severity receiving care at home.

For such reasons holistic medicine-or, alternative medicine-is growing in popularity. People want real answers to their physical challenges, not another drug. Holistic medicine provides those answers by looking at people as whole units, rather than parts.

Alternative medicine includes such treatments as nutrition, energy healing, herbal therapy, magnet therapy, oxygen therapy, acupuncture, exercise and homeopathic remedies. Even better, it puts the onus of responsibility on the patient rather than the practitioner. Any patient seeking help from the network of holistic medicine soon comes to know that they are expected to play an active, positive part in their treatment or healing.

Here are seven reasons to favor holistic medicine over conventional medicine.

1. It addresses the root cause. Conventional medicine merely attempts to eliminate or alleviate symptoms.

2. A person can safely undergo multiple holistic techniques simultaneously. Someone with cancer, for example, might get a weekly massage, radically change their diet, use magnet therapy, and go through chelation therapy. None of the methods contraindicate the other.

3. Holistic medicine techniques work with the body's innate tendency to heal itself. Cutting out all processed food, taking certain herbs and committing to regular oxygen therapy, for instance, may all jump-start the body's natural healing reserves.

4. It's non-toxic. Holistic medicine, whether homeopathy, herbal therapy, or energy healing will never cause any dangerous side effects, and certainly not death. Drugs can cause, and have caused, both.

5. Alternative medicine is effective. Obviously, the same healing method won't necessarily work on two people with the same condition in the same way. However, the practitioners are trained to seek out various solutions, taking individual differences into account. When they find the right solution, healing accelerates.

6. There is no addiction risk connected with holistic medicine. Drugs can become highly addictive, even when taken in the appropriate amounts.

7. Holistic medicine is perfectly safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Certain herbs should not be taken by women who are either pregnant or nursing, and any kind of detoxification can potentially harm the child. However, they can still receive acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, and a host of other alternative treatments.

It's time to take a hard look at what modern medicine has become, and start advocating for more traditional, natural, and safer ways of preventing and treating illness.

Murder So Cold by Patricia Springer - True Crime Book Review

Married for eight years, the Smiths seemed the perfect couple. On September 28, 1994, in Portage, Michigan, Candace Smith was told by her father Russ that her mother had run away with another man. But he never explained to the young seven year old child why the bathroom upstairs was a wreck and why there was blood in the sink. They then drove miles out of state to her grandparent's house with a barrel loaded into the back of a pickup truck.

I saw this original story on the Crime & Investigation channel and wanted to know more and so I ordered the book online. I was right in that there was so much more information in the book which obviously they could not all fit onto a half an hour show. I am amazed at how this man got away with murder for so long. In fact he was only caught by a cold case squad a few years later. The original investigators seemed to be incompetent in that they dismissed the case as a woman who had run away from home despite relatives and friends assurances that she would never have left her child. It seems that if you murder someone and hide the body well enough (and this man travelled miles with the body) the chances are very good that you might get away with murder. This murderer was blatant in his actions even remodelling his bathroom. The amazing thing is you could think that maybe this was so long ago that the investigators were perhaps not so well trained that they did not know how to conduct an investigation but this case was as recent as 1994.

The entire time I read this book I had a constant feeling of disbelief that this man was not getting caught so I can well imagine the reactions of the people close to the victim. They had to live the nightmare and incompetence in the investigation of this case. I was also constantly worrying about the child still with this unstable father.

The book reads well but was a bit of a disappointment as I had watched the tv program before so I knew about the main twists and turns. Paricia Springer does however fill up the spaces in between with pertinent information and a few surprises here and there. I would recommend this book if you are passionate about true crime books and especially if you have never seen the tv program before.

How to Build a Backyard Chicken Run - Start by Getting a Chicken Coop Plan

Do you know chicken makes great household pet? Many people have never thought of raising chickens at home. Usually they will get a dog, cat, fish, hamster etc to keep as pet in their home. Bantams are actually great as pets because they are very low maintenance. The wonderful thing is the hens will produce fresh and delicious eggs. A healthy hen is capable of laying 5 eggs per week. However, due to their relatively small size, chicken are preyed on by cats, dogs, large rats, raccoons etc. To keep them safe, you have to make a shelter for them. How do you build a backyard chicken run? You start off by getting a set of chicken coop plans.

Building a chicken housing is similar to building a house, but only at a much smaller scale. With any building construction, you will need the design blueprints. The best place to source for chicken coop designs is on the internet. Some of the plans are free while others you have to pay for. Beware of free stuff from the web. There is always a catch. Free plans are usually low quality and may not even be accurate. If you are serious about making a practical, pretty and sturdy chicken coop for your backyard, it is wise to make the investment to buy the plans from a reputable vendor.

How do you find the right chicken run plans? You can do your research online also. Just do a query on the search engine for chicken housing design plans and read the users review. If the plans are good, you will find a lot of positive comments about it.

Dallas Mortgage Brokers

Mortgage brokers earn their living by bringing lenders and borrowers together. They are similar to real estate brokers, who bring buyers and sellers together.

As you have to be careful in getting a real estate agent, you have to take similar care to get a mortgage broker. The borrower pay the commission to the broker, so may encounter certain brokers who would be tempted increase the fee. One of the ways that he can achieve that is by approaching a lender who is charging a higher interest rate, resulting a high borrowing for you and higher commission for him.

Also, watch out for brokers who encourage you to take some extra mortgage for other expenses at home. It is always nice to have some extra money, but you should analyze what this extra cash would cost you. If your loan amount goes up, the net payment required to be paid goes up as well as the commission you pay the broker. Obviously, these brokers may not be the best suited for you.

Sometimes, the broker are awarded fee from the lender that they are suppose to pass on to you, but this does not happen always. You need to be vigilant and watch for any extra fees paid by the lender and listed on your closing statements. These are usually referred to as "paid outside closing" or "POC." Check your closing statement for such fees, which often are listed in a different place than other closing costs. Also, ask your broker if he is receiving any such fees because you would reduce his commission by the same amount as any "POC" fees.

So why would you use a broker? Brokers have access to several lenders and provide a wide selection of loan products and terms from which you can choose. Brokers will usually contact multiple lenders regarding your application.

Understanding Your Caravan Insurance Quotes

There are many things that you would have to take into account when applying for caravan insurance and many things have an effect on your caravan insurance quotes. The cost of insuring your caravan can vary and with some providers the insurance could cost a great deal more than with other providers. However there could be many more benefits to a policy that costs just a little more in monthly premiums so this would have to be taken into account.   Whichever policy you are considering you would have to check the terms carefully as this is where you can find the exclusions and limitations that might apply in your insurance policy. For instance whilst steps, gas bottles and awnings are generally covered in caravan insurance there is usually a limit as to the amount that you could claim for them.   For instance if you are looking for touring caravan insurance then you would have to take into account whether European cover would be included in your caravan insurance quotes. If it is and you do not plan on travelling outside of the UK then you might want to search for a policy that does not add European cover in as standard. European cover however is needed if you do plan on taking your caravan outside of the UK. It would payout in the event that you could not stay in your caravan for example if you were in an accident. The policy would provide you with money towards alternative accommodation. If this is needed then check and compare as to how many days coverage and up to how much the policy would provide you with.   Another thing that affects caravan insurance and the cost of it is how secure your caravan is. If you have a static caravan and it is on a site that has excellent security and which is walled in with security lightning then your caravan would be classed as being fairly secure. You could also install an alarm system and window and door locks.   If you have a touring caravan and are looking for insurance then you could install a hitchlock onto the caravan whilst towing. This would make it impossible to unhitch which would deter thieves whilst the caravan was hitched up to the car and you stopped at a rest station. You could also install an alarm which would deter thieves and so help to keep down the cost of the premiums for your policy.   When applying for caravan insurance quotes whether they are for static or touring caravans there will be a certain amount of excess that you would have to pay if you were to make a claim. This would have to be paid as a lump sum and then the insurance company would take over the rest of the claim. While you could keep down the cost of the premiums by paying out more should you be unfortunate enough to have to make more than one claim in the same year you could lose out on any savings that you had made by way of the premiums.

General Honore Leads the Charge Tor Preparedness

Lt. General Russel Honore (for those of you who are not familiar with military ranks, that is a three star general) has a new mission. In addition to training new recruits for the urban combat environment of Iraq and Afghanistan, General Honore is now touring the country, speaking to churches and Rotaries, in town halls and community government auditoriums not as an ambassador for the United States military but rather as an evangelist preaching the gospel of preparedness.

General Honore served with distinction, pride, and true leadership in New Orleans, Louisiana in the days and weeks following Hurricane Katrina. In the year and a half since Katrina much attention has focused on the recovery effort, or lack thereof, in the ninth ward; but little attention has been paid to preparedness in Louisiana or elsewhere. Everyone believes that the Federal government will take care of preparing cities yet in the newest iteration of the free online education from the Federal government a prominent point in the first objectives of each lesion is the fact that the Federal government pays for none of the community's preparedness plan.

That is right, it is up to us.

Now it may not seem like an unusual mission for a 3 Star General to tour the country. Eisenhower, McArthur, and Patton toured the United States during the bond efforts of World War II. It is however an unusual mission for a 3 star general to tour the United States in support of humanitarian preparedness. General Honore calls this "a new normal." According to General Honore we are in an environment now where terrorism, major natural disasters, and industrial accidents are unavoidable and due to the technological complexities of our society potentially catastrophic.

General Honore points out that there is a "nine ward" in every city. A place where the infirm and the elderly, children and the disabled, the poor and the homeless live and are unable to help themselves in the event of disaster. General Honore's message: no government and no military no matter how strong or well prepared can protect an unprepared citizenry.

General Honore advises that at Christmas and birthdays:

"Don't give grandpa a tie, give him a weather radio."

"Don't give grandma a picture frame... give grandma a weather radio."

To this I would add give mom a three day disaster pack with all of the clothes, food, water, and personal toiletries that she will need for 72 hours to ensures that she will see next mother's day. Give dad an electronic personal medical records dive watch and ensure that if dad ends up in the emergency room or a field hospital and cannot speak for himself his electronic personal medical records speak for him.

General Honore's mission reminds us that government can teach, government can reinforce our own preparedness, but it is up to each of us individually to prepare for the next Katrina or the next 9/11.

Are Long Copy Salesletters Scams?

A passionate debate is currently raging in the Copywriters Forum about long versus short copy. (If you haven't joined, do so. Click the "register" link the top. It's free. There are tons of tips from other very successful copywriters.)

The debate was originally sparked by a comment a very well-known Fortune 500 "guru" made about Armand Morin's AudioGenerator.com.

I love it, because debate ignites passion, provides insights and shows some very interesting clues in the way people think -- and feel. Which is the very point I'm bringing up with the issue of "long copy."

Before we begin, let me remind you of a truth we must keep in mind...

Copywriting is "salesmanship in print."

And that hasn't changed since former Canadian policeman John E. Kennedy changed the face of advertising forever with those three words in 1905. (Selling has been around since the beginning of time. As sales trainer Zig Ziglar once noted, selling is the oldest profession in the world. Not that "other" job.)

Because long copy is exactly that: a printed form of a sales pitch. Every question, every handled objection, every attempt the close, all the way to asking for the order, are elements that are applied in long copy salesletters.

Copywriter Paul Myers made a wonderful point: "Your copy needs to be as long as is needed to make the sale, and not one paragraph more."

Gary Halbert once remarked: "There's no such thing as 'too long' but 'too boring'." In other words, if the copy seems too long, it's probably not because of the length, but rather, because at some point it started to bore you.

But the best advice on this comes from Dan Kennedy...

The person who says 'I would never read all that copy' makes the mistake of thinking they are the customer. And they're not. We are never our own customers. There's a thing in copywriting I teach called 'message-to-market match'. It is this: when your message is matched to a target market that has a high level of interest in it, not only does responsiveness go up but readership goes up, too. The whole issue of interest goes up.

The truth about long copy is that, first of all, there's abundant, legitimate, statistical research, that's split-testing research, to indicate that virtually without exception, long copy outperforms short copy. There's some significant research has been done that indicate that readership falls off dramatically at 300 words but does not again drop off until 3,000 words.

The conclusion you can draw from that is this: If they're NOT targeted from the "get-go," they won't read 50 words much less 5,000. (I urge you to read the entire interview available on Kennedy's website.)

If they are targeted and genuinely interested in what you have to offer, then they're going to want more information about it, not less. And that is the key -- because the debate really boils down to three important issues:

1. Market.

2. Objective.

3. Results.

Respectively, in that order.

1. The Market

The approach you take (long or short, institutional or direct response, and hypey or toned-down) depends on the product and the offer (such as the price), because both depend on something more important: the audience.

Long copy does outperform short copy in almost every case. But I do say "almost." Different audiences warrant different types of approaches. In a handful of cases, shorter copy is best. It's all about targeting your market.

Target marketing will tell you everything you need to know about how to write your copy. A common obstacle I see is when business owners are "married" to their products and write copy for their products instead of their audiences.

Second, if your message is not targeted to the right audience, no matter how long or short the copy is, no matter how emotionally charged or not it is, and no matter how innovative or poor the product is...

... The copy won't sell. Period.

Find out who your market is. If you have more than one, I also submit that you should have a different salesletter directed at each different market -- it's market segmentation, pure and simple. Even if it's the same product.

As the saying goes, "Different strokes for different folks."

2. The Objective

The approach itself will be based on the objective of the copy. Personally, I love direct response marketing (whether it's a long copy salesletter, a direct mail piece or an infomercial) specifically because it's measurable, quantifiable and immediate. It's one in which you ask for the order outright.

Or one in which you directly ask the reader to do something. Anything.

It's different if you wanted to use institutional advertising in order to build the brand of your product, penetrate a new market or create top-of-mind awareness -- and not attempting to sell and generate orders on the spot.

Some people choose institutional advertising over direct response advertising. That is, short, pithy, clever copy, with a lot of whitespace, corporate logo and highbrow, highfalutin language. No phone number. No address. No selling.

And no urgency.

That's fine, but this will require a massive advertising budget, a lot of repetition and a ton of patience before knowing if the approach works. But if it does (and once it does), orders will start pouring in. Still, it's very risky at best.

Nevertheless, the question is, what is the copy's goal? Think about this. Is it to educate and inform? To build a brand and penetrate a new market?

Or to make an offer and SELL?

3. The Results

You will approach each market differently. And the language, and particularly the offer, must fit THAT specific market. Again, it depends on #1 and #2.

For example, do you use hyperbole, emotions and even "used-car" vernacular to make your pitch? Maybe. Maybe not. But consider this: while the language may or may not be hypey, "go to the court of last resort," as Claude Hopkins said. That's "the buyers of your product." And that's the key: testing.

If the language is indeed turning them off and causing them NOT to buy, that's what's important. Again, your audience will ultimately dictate your approach.

Is it too hypey? Too cheesy? Too "scammy?" If so, how do you know? Aside from your market and objective, the language you choose depends on your offer. But more important, it all depends on the results your offer creates.

Whether the reader likes the language or not is not the issue: if the language makes the sale, that's the true test. In the end, your prospects will cast their votes on your copy not with their opinions or feedback but with their wallets.

Projecting a professional, poised and credible image doesn't mean you can't be emotional in your pitch. People buy on emotion first and justify their decision with logic. Even engineers, C-level executives and politicians.

You can still fire up hormones and press hot buttons and stir emotions -- without appearing cheesy, overbearing or downright crude. Some final words.

Don't go on long-winded tangents, and don't add copy just for the sake of making it long. Keep your eyes on the prize. Stick with the sale. Be relevant. Make your case, tell your story and provide as much information as is needed to make the sale... And not one word more.

Because the bottom line is this: the length and tone of your copy are dictated not by what you think, and not by what a copywriter or advertising agency thinks, but by your audience, your objective and, above all, your results.

Installing Interior Doors

Interior doors, which are sometimes know as "passage doors" since they connect passages between rooms, come in a variety of styles, and unlike exterior doors, do not have the same security needs. After you have chosen your interior door style, you will need to install your door. If you're not much of a handyman (or woman), the idea of installing a new door inside your home may sound somewhat intimidating. However, with the proper tools, it is a task that can be easily accomplished, even for a novice. Here's what you will need to hang an interior door in your home:

· Your new door, measured and cut to fit the existing opening · Hammer · Finishing Nails · Level · Shims · Wood putty · A friend to help

These are the basic tools and supplies you'll need in order to properly install the door. Once you have everything together, it should only take you a couple hours to finish the project, assuming you don't run into any unforeseen problems.

The first step in the process is to fit the door into the rough frame. When fitting the door into the frame, it's good to have an extra set of hands to help hold the door in place and to ensure that it doesn't twist or move while you're finishing the installation. Use shims in order to vertically plumb the door and to fill in any gaps along the top and sides. Tap all the shims into place from both directions, then nail through them and the door jamb into the wall studs using 8-penny finishing nails and starting at the top hinge. Be sure that all the nails go completely through the shims and jamb and into the wall stud. Repeat this step on all other hinges. Be mindful that the space between the door and the jamb should be even all the way around the door at this point.

Now you need to trim the shims, being careful not to cut the jamb or the wall. Once this is done, cut the door's trim and nail it on every 16 inches using 4-penny finishing nails. Use wood putty to cover the nail heads. All that's left now is installing the doorknob and doing any touch up work with the wood putty.

Those are the basics of installing an interior door. With a little time, patience, and the proper equipment, you can save yourself some money in installation fees by hanging your door yourself.

What's Your Copyright Worth If It's Not Registered Prior to Someone Stealing Your Work?

The answer is: "Not much." Visual and graphic artists are particularly vulnerable to unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted images on the Internet. It's literally a simple "right click," "copy," and "paste." Many such infringements go undetected. Those that are discovered are often let go without remedial action. Why? The artist fails to register his or her work with the U.S. Copyright Office prior to the work being stolen. For years, I've been asked: "Can't I just mail it to myself?" In the case of scripts, "Isn't the Writers Guild enough?" Then I hear, "I never got around to it." My answer is, "Sorry, there's not much I can do to help you."

NO, NO and-NO! There is one place, and one only, to register your works. Instead of sending in your registration by mail and waiting for years, the Copyright Office has come into the digital age so you can digitally upload the files. So why wait?

Exactly why is registration so darn important? While a copyright is valid without registration, the very statement is misleading. Copyright registration is essential to preserve key remedies for infringement. Unless registered prior to infringement, attorney's fees and statutory damages are not available. It is often difficult, if not impossible, to prove actual damages or profits attributable to theft of a copyrighted work. For example, if the work is used on a product that doesn't sell millions of copies, how do you prove your damages?

Congress created two types of damages to recover under copyright law. In addition to "actual damages," one can elect statutory damages without proof of out of pocket losses. This means not only will the infringer have to pay you up to $150,000 per willful act of infringement (the amount is discretionary with the court) they will need to pay your lawyer's fees. However, your work must have been registered prior to the theft or these remedies are lost. Without the threat of having to pay attorney's fees to the copyright owner, there is little, if any, chance of finding counsel to bring a costly and drawn out infringement action on a speculative basis.

Legally, you are entitled to obtain an injunction to prevent ongoing or future infringements even if you file the registration after the infringement. A preliminary injunction in a copyright case can cost six figures and above in legal fees.

If you don't register, you won't be getting any statutory damages or lawyer's fees from the defendant. Unless you can finance the case out of your own pocket, this is one lawyer who can't afford to help you. Do your selves a big favor-take care of this simple but all important part of your business. Register your works-someday you may be glad you did!

Three Tips to Improve Restaurant Management

Your managers are your eyes, ears and, most importantly, your mouth in the day-to-day running of your restaurant. Whether you are an extensively "hands-on" owner or if you only check in once in a while, you have to be able to rely on your management staff to keep things running smoothly in your absence and to make sure that your restaurant maintains the standard of excellence you, or your franchisor, has set for it. There are a number of key attributes that should be looked for and encouraged in your management staff.

Strong Communication Skills

Communication is key. You count on your managers to keep you informed and to be able to adequately express your wishes to the rest of your staff. You cannot expect your employees to do what you want if your management cannot clearly relate your instructions to them. Strong communication is vital for a happy workplace. Misunderstandings lead to upset and disgruntled employees, managers and ultimately and unhappy you, as you see your plans and instructions not being implemented.

Stress the importance of communication to your managers. Make sure that they can repeat your instructions back to you in a manner that indicates that they comprehend them. Also make sure that your managers have a clear understanding of how to communicate firmly yet respectfully with staff to keep thing running smoothly without friction in the workplace.

Handling Employees

Hand-in-hand with the manager's ability to communicate with staff is his or her ability to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with the employees under his or her supervision. You don't want your managers being harsh or condescending. This leads to discontent and demoralization of your staff.

Even more dangerous to your business are the managers who want to be overly friendly with the staff. Those managers get walked over and easily lose control of the staff they are paid to supervise. A successful manager needs to understand the middle road of being courteous yet firm in their expectations. Any manager not capable of this balance is not fit for management at all.

Leading by Example

If your management staff does not demonstrate strong work ethics, then expect the rest of your staff to follow suit. Your managers have to be able to show the same dedication to their work that you would ultimately like to see from even the lowest level employee. A successful restaurant has no room for managers that are chronically late, disorganized or display a tendency to do the bare minimum.

A good manager looks beyond the day-to-day duties of running the restaurant and consistently seeks out ways to improve the business. A manager who lacks the initiative to do this, lacks the qualities necessary to be a successful manager. Encourage and provide incentives for managers to be proactive.

Your restaurant is your livelihood and you certainly wouldn't want to trust it to just anyone. You place a tremendous amount of trust in your managers. However, if you don't take the time to express your expectations and to cultivate positive qualities in them, then you have little reasonable expectation for them to rise to the challenge of making your business flourish.

Polyphonic Ringtones - A Useful Babysitting Aid?

Polyphonic ringtones have turned cell phones from an ordinary communication tool into a multi functional device with a variety of purposes-one of which is entertaining bored children.

As a father of an active toddler, I often find myself in situations where my child is a) about to break something very expensive, b) screaming in a public place. The most obvious solution, of course, would be to give him a toy to keep him amused. But as any parent knows, toys do not work when they are supposed to. They will be flung to the floor (or worse, at the strangers sitting at the next table). In emergency situations like that, I bring out my phone.

There's something about the polyphonic ringtones that provide a hypnotic, calming effect on small children. They listen to it, over and over again. My son's favourite, the end credit theme of Sponge Bob, has been known to keep him seated in one place for five minutes. For an 18 month old, that's nothing short of a miracle.

For that reason, I always keep a number of polyphonic tones that my son might like. The Barney Song-the anthem of all toddlers and their unfortunate parents-is armed and ready whenever we enter a restaurant. There is also, for some mysterious reason, Brian McKnight's "One Last Cry." I don't know why he likes it, or even when he first heard it, but we use it whenever he goes to the paediatrician and needs to stay still for a shot. (For those who will accuse me of not raising my child properly by exposing him to cheesy ballads, I defend myself by saying that he also likes The Beatles and John Coltrane.) Yes, even the most modern songs have been converted into polyphonic tunes. Of course the classics are there-my wife's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" sounds particularly fairy-like in its polyphonic form. Download whatever you like. Or whatever your child likes, even if you hate it, because we all know he's the boss.

I have a theory that the reason children like polyphonic tones is that it has that music box quality: delicate, tinkling rhythms. Though deeper and less metallic than the blips of music boxes of old, it still sounds equally as magical to the innocent ears of a child. And, of course, there is the advantage that polyphonic tunes are now more diverse than the standard music box themes of Fur Elise, and I do not have to deal with a pink ballerina. (Barney is bad enough.)

Who would've thought that a mobile phone could be such a useful babysitting aid, or that polyphonic ring tones would rank as high as disposable diapers in the parents' list of modern inventions to be thankful for. While it does have a lot of uses in the adult world-with everyone in the room carrying a mobile phone, having a unique ring tone lets you know when it's your call-its greatest contribution to society is the peace it provides frazzled parents. Yes, music does have the power to soothe the "savage beasts".

Top Reasons to Install Security Camera Systems

Automated security camera systems are the most happening security enforcement tools available in the market today. For instance, they are used in cities to catch speeders and red light violators. Many cities in the US have hundreds of camera systems for the surveillance of buildings, subways and other areas. In law enforcement, these systems are used for face recognition, recordings of crime scene activities and so on.

Security camera systems are used for many purposes. They can protect a home as well as a business. They may be installed outside public buildings, gas stations and so on.

One of the most important uses of cameras is motion detection. They 'see' movement and record the same. Thus, they provide visual proof of incidents that have been going on. These proofs may then be used later on.

Security camera systems have become so popular because they may be controlled remotely. They need not be controlled only from the location of installation. Special software allows control and access of cameras from remote locations. These days, it is possible to record events as and when motion is detected. These additions make the security system all the more useful and vibrant, thus suitable for different kinds of requirements. For instance, if the family is away on a holiday, it is possible to turn on recording only if movement is detected. This helps to keep the house covered all throughout the vacation.

Security cameras come in a wide range of features. There are wired and wireless varieties of security cameras. Both systems are easy to install but have special uses that may be used in different situations.

These days, it is possible to send instructions to cameras from afar. In the same way, security cameras too can send information through email. Therefore, if one is away from home and has set up the camera to send information through email, the camera will relay messages if unusual activity is detected. This feature is very useful when there is no one at home.

Highly sophisticated camera systems can take high quality color pictures too, although these systems are typically more expensive when compared to low resolution, black and white images. Similarly, the cost of the camera depends on the memory storage capacity of the camera.

Typically, security camera systems may be installed inside or outside the home in order to ensure the safety of the home. Network camera systems are also available and these work almost like computer networking systems.

Discovering Your Life Purpose - An Overview

When you look in the mirror, do you see a purposeful, productive, satisfied human being looking back at you, or do you see someone who's caught in the grind, moving on autopilot, and not having much fun in the process?

How long has it been since you opened your eyes in the morning with a sense of anticipation, yes and even excitement? If you haven't felt that sense of wonder and expectancy since you were a child, you're not alone, read on!

If this sounds familiar, you're probably also wondering why you're here, whether there is a purpose or if you're an accident? Is there something you should be doing with your life that you're missing? How will you know? And how in heaven's name should you go about it?

Life with a plan is the answer. You're may be thinking, "Oh, no, not that, not another plan!" Ah, but this is a grand plan, one you can truly live by, a freeing plan, not another system to be bound to. This plan works for you not on you!

Today we're introducing the concepts of PURPOSE, MISSION, VISIONS & GOALS. These terms are often confused and mistakenly used interchangeably, when in reality they're very different, though definitely linked. An understanding of their meanings and the part they play in moving us forward is vital to getting us back to that place of excitement and anticipation we knew as children.

PURPOSE & MISSION

These two terms are often used interchangeably, but what appears to be a subtle difference is significant to your success. The simple difference is that purpose is what you're made for and mission is what you're meant to do about it.

Each of us has a purpose, a reason we were created. Discovering what that is unlocks our greatest potential and catapults us forward into our destiny.

Mission, from the Latin mittere to send, is the beginning of the adventure. Once we know our purpose for existing in the first place, we can begin the process of discerning our destiny, what we're meant to do about it.

No one is here without purpose and each of us has a mission we are meant to live out. Everyone has sensed at some time that they were meant to be or do something bigger than themselves, a reason for living beyond just getting by. No one is a mistake. Whether you know it or are even able to grasp it, you're here right now, at this particular point in history, for a reason.

No one on earth, from one end of time to another can fill your spot exactly the way you can. You are unique. Even the marks of your fingertips are unlike any that ever were or ever will be again; you're "fearfully and wonderfully made" according to the Book of Psalms. If your very fingerprints bespeak such uniqueness, how much more your purpose for existing!

Once you are certain of your purpose, discovering your mission is an adventure in itself, a journey into the realm of your gifts and talents, a look at what excites you and where your passions lie. It's uncovering and examining those markers that have been there all along pointing the way to the answer to the major questions of your life.

VISIONS

Webster defines vision as the act or power of imagination; mode of seeing or conceiving. It is engaging the mind in conceptualizing. And it's a great activity for the porch swing, walking through the forest preserves, or floating in a boat, loosely attached to a fishing pole.

Visions are the pictures of what you will do about your discovered mission, your reason for being here. If mission is the hub of the wheel, then visions are the spokes. Visions are a lot like oil paintings, colorful, detailed, diverse and they come in all sizes and styles.

They all have in common that they begin as a dream in the mind of an artist and they only appear on canvas when they have become life size on the inside of the visionary and they simply must manifest! When the vision is so real on the inside that you find you can almost operate from within it, it's time to make a path for it into the physical world (see the author's article, Birthing Your Dream).

GOALS

It's at this point that goals come into the plan. According to Webster, one of the synonyms for goal is design, which implies a carefully calculated plan. Goals are where the rubber meets the road.

You may be thinking "oh no, not more goals. I get goals at work, goals at home, on the school board, from the Chamber of Commerce... No more goals!" But this is where the artist begins preparation to bring the dream to life on canvas; building the frame, stretching the canvas, applying the gesso, choosing and mixing the paints, drawing preliminary sketches. Each step in the process is necessary; each step pointedly bringing him closer to the realization, in living color, of what until now has been alive and vibrant only in his mind's eye.

It's at this point that she begins the visible work. The rest has been an inner exercise, a function of the mind and heart. Designing goals involves doing the research, getting out the slide rule, making the Gantt chart, doing the sketches, calculating the cost. But by this time the vision is so real and the visionary is so ready to burst with it, that the goals are no chore, but a welcome means by which to deliver the dream.

It's only when we confuse the process, mixing up the terms, trying to do them out of order that life becomes a chore. Discover your purpose and your mission, begin to create your visions and design well-crafted goals to support them and bring them to pass and before long you'll be the enthusiastic kid in the mirror again, eager to get out and make a giant splash in the world!

What Makes Fencing A Great Sport?

A good fencing match is a high-intensity melding of combat and ballet. The warriors push each other up and down a fencing strip with light flashing off their blades as they thrust, parry, attack and evade. While nobody jumps over rocks or retreats up stairs a la the Princess Bride, there is a great, dynamic aspect to the sport.

Coordination, speed, agility and self-assurance are just a few of the qualities this sport requires of its participants. Fencing's intensity and demands for physical and mental acuity are a natural result of fencing's violent history. And while fencing has morphed from combat to sport, these skills are a large part what make fencing such an exhilarating endeavor. A successful fencer must be capable of mounting powerful driving attacks or conversely, of making subtle and crafty defenses, all within the space of a few seconds. Speed and strength will only take an athlete so far in fencing: intellect is paramount. A good fencer must be clever and with unwavering concentration able to conceive and execute calculated moves quickly. The spirit of fair play and honor is an integral part of fencing. A maximum of politeness and consideration is always observed while competing with others. Fencing is as much an attitude as it is a sport and those who participate in fencing find that it can profoundly affect their lives.

Some form of fencing has been around for centuries. In fact, fencing is one of only four events to have been contested at every Olympics since the modern Olympic Games started in 1896. As fencing has moved away from warfare, several offshoots have developed: fencing as art and fencing as sport.

Fencing is a life-long sport that welcomes swashbucklers of all ages. You can learn it when you're young, or when you're young at heart. While most sports only reward speed or power, fencing lets you choose whether you are going to win by using your speed, or using your guile - which allows the parents to teach their children a thing or two while the children do the same to us.

While there are benefits in terms of having something unusual and conversation provoking to put on a college resume, the true benefits of fencing go much, much deeper. By learning fencing, a child learns self discipline, respect for others, independence and the importance of honesty and fair play. Such skills are transferable to any endeavor and help to create a well rounded and active person.
